McGill steals at least a million dollars of TA wages every single year. That’s an average of over $485 each stolen from half of TAs.(1) We collected that data in 2017, and since then things have been getting worse. In departments across the university, TA budgets are getting cut, while the amount of labour stays the same.(2)

As of this fall, Graders, Course Tutors, Undergrad Course Assistants, Graduate Student Assistants, Graduate Teaching Fellows, (Student) Course Assistants, and other course based academic casuals are members of AGSEM. As unionized workers, those working in all these positions now have the right to collectively bargain for better work conditions. The first step of this is understanding what the current work conditions are for workers across the university and what they would most like to change about these work conditions.
