It’s past time for a fair contract for all academic support workers at McGill

We’re forming a union with AGSEM for graders, tutors, and other academic casuals at McGill and we need you to sign a union card to succeed. AGSEM is currently a 3,000 member union for Teaching Assistants (TAs) and invigilators at McGill. Join us if you currently work, have worked in the past 12 months, or think you will work in one or more of the following roles:

• grader 

• tutor

• undergraduate or graduate course assistant

• or other academic casual

Why start a union?

 

Most graders and course tutors at McGill receive around half the wage of Teaching Assistants, despite doing practically the same job. And they do not have the same right to be rehired, protections against overwork, and support at work. TAs won all this and $33/h pay by unionizing with AGSEM-CSN and negotiating collectively.

Now, we want to win the same pay and conditions for academic casuals, because we believe that if you do the same job, you should get the same pay and protections.
